Longines Ladies Awards, Longines honors women in the equestrian world

“The four of them are inspiring models for their extensive commitment to their favorite sports and also to helping others. Dear Horse Lovers,

A few days ago, Longines awarded women that had an important role in equestrian world, during the Longines Ladies Awards 2017 cerimony. I think that it’s a very important appointment, especially considering that women are always a minority in equestrian sports.

Qualche giorno fa, Longines ha consegnato i Longines Ladies Awards 2017, i premi dedicati alle donne che si sono particolarmente distinte nel mondo equestre. Trovo che siano un appuntamento di grande valore, soprattutto se si considera che le donne sono in netta minoranza nel mondo degli sport equestri.

Awards have been delivered during the gala dinner in Washington DC, at the impressive Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center: a super glamorous event, with many important personalities of the equestrian world.

Four women were awarded with the Longines Ladies Awards 2017: Georgina Bloomberg, Reed Kessler, Michelle Payne and the Honorable Belinda Stronach. They all received an elegant  Longines timepiece of the Longines Saint-Imier Collection from the hands of Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice President and Head of International Marketing of the Swiss watchmaker.

I premi sono stati consegnati durante la cena di gala organizzata a Washington, presso l’imponente Ronald Reagan Building e International Trade Center: un appuntamento estremamente glamour a cui hanno partecipato molti volti importanti del mondo equestre.

Sono state quattro le donne premiate con i Longines Ladies Awards 2017: Georgina Bloomberg, Reed Kessler, Michelle Payne e l’Onorevole Belinda Stronach. Tutte hanno ricevuto un elegante orologio della Longines Saint-Imier Collection, direttamente dalle mani di Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice President e Head of International Marketing della casa orologiaia svizzera.


Georgina Bloomberg & Reed Kessler

Georgina and Reed are two young and promising American showjumpers. They take part in the best showjumping events in the world, like the Longines Global Champions Tour. 

“Recognizing women in sports is very important for me and Reed because we both try to be top athletes and classy, elegant women who do things correctly in life” said Georgina.

Georgina e Reed sono due giovani e promettenti amazzoni americane che competono nel salto ostacoli. Entrambe partecipano ai maggiori eventi di showjumping nel mondo, come il Longines Global Champions Tour. 

“Riconoscere le donne nello sport è molto importante per me e Reed perché entrambe cerchiamo di essere ottime atlete ma anche donne eleganti, che cercano di fare la cosa giusta” ha detto Georgina.


Michelle Payne

Michelle Payne, Australian jockey, made the history of racing in 2015, when she became the first woman to win the prestigious Melbourne Cup. Since then, she tried to support women in the world of racing, a world that is extremely masculine and where female jockeys are really few. “I am honored to be in Washington to receive this special award. It means a great deal to me” she declared, “Longines have been such wonderful supporters of women in equestrian sport, where there have been so many accomplished women. My goal is to continue to encourage women that anything is possible if you dream and work hard enough. Thank you to Longines who with this award will help me do just that.”

Michelle Payne, fantina australiana, è entrata nella storia dell’ippica, quando nel 2015 è diventata la prima donna a vincere la prestigiosa Melbourne Cup. Da quel momento, ha cercato di sostenere le donne nel mondo dell’ippica, un mondo estremamente maschile e dove le fantine professioniste sono davvero poche. “Sono onorata di essere a Washington e ricevere questo premio speciale. Significa davvero molto per me” ha dichiarato “Longines è stato un incredibile per supporto per le donne nel mondo degli sport equestri, dove ci sono così tante donne piene di talento. Il mio obiettivo è di continuare ad incoraggiare le donne, tutto è possibile se sogni e lavori duro. Grazie a Longines, che grazie a questo premio mi aiuta a fare esattamente questo.”


Belinda Stronach

The Honorable Belinda Stronach is a Canadian businesswoman, founder of the Stronach Group, that organizes very important racing events. She was also part of the Canadian government and she had always been involved in the equestrian world.

L’Onorevole Belinda Stronach è una donna d’affari canadese, fondatrice del Stronach Group, che si occupa dell’organizzazione di gare ippiche ad altissimo livello. Ha anche fatto parte del governo canadese ed è sempre stata impegnata nel mondo equestre.

Well, every one of those incredible personalities had an important role in promoting women in the equestrian world and me, as a woman and a Horse Lover, I want to thank them for their commitment.

Insomma, ciascuna di queste quattro incredibili personalità ha avuto un ruolo molto importante nella promozione della figura della donna nel mondo equestre e io, da donna e Horse Lover, mi sento di ringraziarle personalmente per il loro impegno.
