Donatella Versace chooses Fur Free, time to say goodbye to furs

My dear Horse Lovers,

After Gucci, Tom Ford, Givenchy and Michael Kors, also Donatella Versace joins the Fur Free movement. The news has spread in the fashion world in recent weeks, following a statement, by the designer herself, appeared on The Economist: “I don’t want to kill animals to make fashion. It doesn’t feel right”.

As an equestrian fashion blogger and Horse Lover, I fully support Donatella’s choice. More and more fashion designers choose to adhere to the new cruelty-free ethics of fashion, thus contributing to create a more sustainable future. Today, technology gives us the chance to make a difference: using eco-friendly raw materials with low impact on animals and environment is, in my opinion, the real revolution.

dopo Gucci, Tom Ford, Givenchy e Michael Kors, anche Donatella Versace rinuncia alle pellicce e si unisce al movimento Fur Free. La notizia si è diffusa nel mondo della moda proprio nelle ultime settimane, dopo una dichiarazione della stilista stessa alla rivista The Economist: “Non è giusto uccidere animali per fare moda, mi fa sentire a disagio”. 
Da equestrian fashion blogger e Horse Lover, condivido totalmente questa presa di posizione di Donatella. Sempre più stilisti e designer scelgono di aderire alla nuova etica cruelty free della moda, contribuendo così a creare un futuro più sostenibile. Oggi la tecnologia ci dà la possibilità di fare la differenza: utilizzare materie prime eco friendly, a basso impatto sugli animali e sull’ambiente, è a mio parere la vera rivoluzione.

One of the pioneers in animal rights protection as well as a more sustainable fashion, is definitely Stella McCartney. As a vegetarian and an activist, she has always stood out from the crowd for being against the use of raw materials of animal origin in her collections: no leather, feathers or fur, but only cruelty-free natural products.

Una delle pioniere nella tutela dei diritti degli animali e di una moda più sostenibile, è sicuramente Stella McCartney. Vegetariana e attivista, si è da sempre distinta per il suo rifiuto di utilizzare materie prime di origine animale nelle sue collezioni: niente pelle, piume né pellicce, ma solo prodotti naturali cruelty free.

It has not been easy for McCartney to stay true to her principles and carve out her own space in the fashion world, making her voice heard by the community. Her positions have always been considered radical and against the trend by the insiders, but despite the criticism and difficulties the designer never gave up. Time has proved her right, and today she can proudly say her brand is "the world's first and only vegetarian luxury brand".

Over the years, many stylists have followed her steps, becoming supporters of a more ethical approach to the fashion world. Finally, even an iconic fashion house like Versace’s has decided to adhere to these principles, and the results can be appreciated in the Versus Versace Spring-Summer 2018 collection: a hymn to the equestrian fashion, where cowboy prints and accessories are the real protagonists.

Non è stato facile per la McCartney rimanere fedele ai suoi principi e ritagliarsi uno spazio nel mondo della moda, facendo sentire la sua voce. Le sue prese di posizione sono sempre state considerate radicali e contro corrente dagli addetti ai lavori, ma nonostante le critiche e le difficoltà la designer è andata avanti dritta per la sua strada. Il tempo le ha dato ragione, e oggi può definire con orgoglio il suo brand come “primo e unico marchio di lusso vegetariano al mondo”. 

Nel corso degli anni molti stilisti hanno seguito il suo esempio, facendosi sostenitori di un approccio più etico al mondo del fashion. Finalmente anche un’istituzione come la maison Versace ha deciso di aderire a questi principi, e i risultati si notano già dalla collezione Primavera-Estate 2018 di Versus Versace: un inno alla moda equestre, dove stampe e accessori da cowboy sono i veri protagonisti.
