Exclusive interview with the Longines Ambassador Jane Richard Philips

“I am very proud to be the Longines Ambassador of Elegance” (Jane Richard Philips)

Hello horse lovers, new week new post!

I am so happy I got the chance to jump into the world of the Longines Ambassador and show jumping woman Jane Richard Philips for this special interview :-)

What does it mean being the Longines Ambassador of Elegance

I am the Longines Ambassador of Elegance since 2003, a long time relationship that gets stronger and stronger each year. Horse riding is the perfect combination to show and bring over the Longines slogan “Elegance is an attitude” and there is no better partnership for horse and rider than Longines with its elegant and sportive watches, perfect for any occasion.

What do you like the most of the Longines Global Champions Tour?

The Longines Global Champions Tour has a lot of impressive and unforgettable venues! The legs are held in the most beautiful places in the world with the best horses and riders! It is an incredible opportunity to have such a nice and high standard horse show!

What are the key qualities to be successful in show jumping in your opinion?

To be successful in show jumping, it is important to believe in yourself and your horses, and better is the teamwork better the results because it is a partnership. Also very important is the team around you and your horses: trainer, manager, supporter, veterinary and so on. Last but not least, I think that key of everything is to keep your horse happy! Be ready to respect them, spend a lot of time with them, work hard and learn every day from them!

When did you understand you wanted to be a rider at a professional level and what do you suggest to youngest that would like to follow your career?

Since I was a young girl, riding and understanding horses were my passions and my dream was to make my job of it.

I was studying economics next to practicing and training with horses, and competing at international jumping competitions. After finishing my studies in Bern, I decided to try to follow my dream and to put all my energy for a while into my most important partners, my horses! Soon I realized this was what I wanted to do and I said to myself "that's my life"!

Today my daily work with horses, students and my training gives me a lot of satisfactions and brings me a lot of joy! I hope that a lot of other young people can reach their passion and their dream!

What is important in your experience to better work with horses?

I try to have a very close relationship with my horses! I work with them every day keeping attention to their mood, and every day I try to understand something new from them!
The more I understand how they feel, the closer I get to them, and the better they understand me.
