yesterday evening Doha has hosted the last leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour 2016. And finally, after losing the opportunity two times before, 2° in 2012 and 2014, Swedish rider Rolf-Göran Bengtsson has made his dream come true winning the overall title of the prestigious circuit.

ieri sera a Doha si è conclusa l’ultima tappa del Longines Global Champions Tour 2016. E dopo aver perso l’occasione in due passate edizioni, 2° nel 2012 e nel 2014, finalmente il cavaliere svedese Rolf-Göran Bengtsson è riuscito a coronare il suo sogno di vincere il prestigioso circuito mondiale.

Casall ASK - LGCT of Doha
Riding his faithful 17 years old stallion Casall ASK, the horse that was with him during the most important moments of his career, Rolf won the Longines Global Champions Tour 2016 in style, winning also the Grand Prix of Doha!
He was the favorite for the trophy, being at the top of the general ranking. Just behind him there was Edwina Tops Alexander, the Australian rider who already won the Tour twice, in 2011 and in 2012.
She had the opportunity to become the first rider to win a hat-trick of titles, but narrowly missed out on making history after rolling two poles in an uncharacteristic round with Lintea Tequila. The 8 penalties meant Rolf-Göran Bengtsson would keep his winning lead and be crowned 2016 Champion of Champions.
In sella al suo fedele stallone di 17 anni Casall ASK, cavallo con cui ha conquistato tanti importanti trofei, Rolf ha vinto il Longines Global Champions Tour 2016 in grande stile, vincendo anche il Grand Prix di Doha!
È arrivato a Doha come grande favorito, essendo al comando della classifica generale. Dietro di lui c’era Edwina Tops Alexander, l’amazzone australiana che in passato ha già vinto il Tour, nel 2011 e nel 2012. Edwina poteva quindi centrare uno storico tris diventando la prima ha ottenere un tale risultato, che sfugge di pochissimo dopo aver colpito due barriere in un insolito primo round con la sua cavalla Lintea Tequila. Le 8 penalità decretano così Rolf-Göran Bengtsson vincitore, incoronandolo Champion of Champions 2016.

“This is something you can dream about, but normally a dream is impossible to achieve. My horse Casall ASK is just amazing. Still jumping at 17 years. He likes it and makes everything possible. What he has done for me is amazing. I am really, really happy. If he jumps like this it is hard to stop. We are going to have a discussion in the team but I feel with Casall right now it would be a shame to put him in a box and say it is all over. On the other hand you can’t make it better than today. I have a great feeling if we manage we can continue but for how long we have to see.”

Gli piace saltare e rende tutto possibile. Quello che ha fatto per me è eccezionale. Sono davvero, davvero contento. È difficile fermare un cavallo che salta così. Ne parlerò con il team ma se continua a essere in forma come oggi, è un peccato metterlo a riposo in box e dirgli che è tutto finito. D’altro canto è difficile far meglio di così. Mi sento di continuare se sarà possibile ma dovremo capire per quanto ancora.”

I must confess: I was cheering for Edwina! Rolf is really a great athlete, he really deserves this triumph and I believe that a real Horse Lover should be happy for him and his amazing Casall ASK, but in a world like the equestrian world where women are always in the minority, well, girl solidarity I think doesn’t hurt, do you agree with me friends Horse Lovers?
Vi devo confessare una cosa: io facevo il tifo per Edwina! Rolf è un grande atleta e in ogni caso ha meritato davvero questo trionfo e credo che ogni vero Horse Lover sia felice per lui e per lo splendido Casall ASK, ma in un mondo come quello equestre, dove le donne sono in minoranza, beh, un po’ di sana solidarietà femminile penso che non guasti, non siete d’accordo con me amiche Horse Lovers?
