The Italian design and British Equestrian Style of Attic and Barn

When an old scarf becomes pure inspiration 

Quando un vecchio foulard diventa pura ispirazione 

My dear Horse Lovers,
How many of you love to get lost among the colourful flea market stalls? For fans of vintage fashion, this is definitely an unmissable experience. But what you may not know is that it is just from an old scarf recovered from a flea market that the Italian fashion company Attic and Barn took inspiration for their new Fall-Winter collection 2018-19. 

Getting inspired by an object from other times, in order to find new ideas and innovate design is indeed a very romantic idea. Irony, passion and originality are undoubtedly the three elements that make up this new line of vital and sparkling clothing, all dedicated to the most famous British Equestrian Style, source of inspiration for many designers. On the various prints you can see horses in full swing, in a riot of colours and contrasts that add a burst of energy and movement to these urban-inspired clothes. I combined one of its dresses with the elegant and refined lines of the Longines Equestrian collection. 

Miei cari Horse Lovers, 
quanti di voi amano perdersi fra i banchetti coloratissimi dei mercati delle pulci? Per gli appassionati della moda vintage si tratta sicuramente di un’esperienza imperdibile. Ma quello che forse non sapete è che è proprio da un vecchio foulard recuperato da un mercato delle pulci che l’azienda di moda italiana Attic and Barn ha preso ispirazione per la sua nuova collezione Autunno-Inverno 2018-19. 

Trovo davvero romantica l’idea di lasciare che un oggetto di altri tempi regali suggestioni e idee per innovare il design. Ironia, passione e originalità sono senza dubbio i tre elementi che compongono questa nuova linea di abbigliamento vitale e frizzante, tutta dedicata al più celebre British Equestrian Style che, da sempre, ha ispirato numerosi stilisti. Nelle varie stampe si intravedono cavalli in piena corsa, in un tripudio di colori e contrasti che aggiungono a questi abiti dal design di ispirazione urban una sferzata di energia, movimento e simpatia. Ho abbinato uno dei loro abiti alle linee eleganti e raffinate della Longines Equestrian Collection. 

But the real protagonist of this new collection is a colourful print that represents a group of spectators who attend an equestrian event, waiting for the competition to start. Attic and Barn took full inspiration from the crowded tribunes of people, reproducing their stylized silhouettes in a blaze of vivid and dynamic hues. These motifs, with unique hats, bright colours and an elegant atmosphere, made me immediately think at the Longines Global Champions Tour of Rome, that I had the chance to attend also this year thanks to Longines. 

Ma la vera protagonista di questa nuova collezione è una stampa total color che rappresenta un gruppo di spettatori che assistono a un evento equestre, in attesa che abbia inizio la gara. Attic and Barn ha preso piena ispirazione dalle tribune affollate di persone, riproducendone le sagome stilizzate in un tripudio di tonalità vivide e dinamiche. Appena ho visto queste stampe, con cappelli particolari, colori sgargianti e un clima generale di festa e divertimento, mi è subito venuto in mente il Longines Global Champions Tour di Roma, a cui ho avuto il piacere di partecipare anche quest'anno grazie a Longines.

I find the end result really original and fun, a balanced mix of modern irreverence and elegance, exactly like this leg of the circuit. This combination goes well with the shapes of the various statues around the Stadio dei Marmi: spectators themselves of the show, as well as protagonists of such a marvellous venue. 

Trovo il risultato finale davvero originale e divertente, un mix bilanciato fra irriverenza moderna ed eleganza, esattamente come questa tappa del circuito. L’accostamento si abbina bene con le forme delle varie statue disposte attorno allo Stadio dei Marmi: spettatori anch’essi della gara, ma anche protagonisti di questa location mozzafiato.





This collection seems perfect to face the winter months with the right amount of colour and energy. In short, another interesting clothing brand to add to the autumn wish list! Do you agree, my dear Horse Lovers?
